Job Title: Polymer Application Engineer

Job Description: Element Staffing is recruiting for a Polymer Application Engineer for a major petrochemical company in SE Houston. The Polymer Application Engineer will serve a key role in our innovation process. They will work in a lab-scale polymer processing facility including injection molding, sheet extrusion thermoforming, foam extrusion, etc. They will collaborate with our engineers, technicians, technical service, analytical, plant support, sales, and marketing staff to turn novel concepts into solutions to customers’ problems and business-relevant products. They will also have opportunities to attend relevant conferences to share work, broaden your knowledge, and network.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist the production team to resolve problems and complaints, produce samples and provide technical support to customers
  • Initiate application projects with design of experiment, execute experimentation, evaluate results and communicate results and recommendations
  • Lead projects for the development and evaluation of new and improved products to meet longer term and future business objectives and customer needs
  • Develop work procedures and training programs to ensure all equipment is operated in a safe manner
  • Fundamental understanding of polymer materials synthesis, characterization, structure-property relationships and utilization toward application development
  • Ability to draw conclusions based on technical results and provide regular project status updates and technical reports to all the stakeholders
  • Schedule and prioritize machine time and technician assignments
  • Expertise in polymer extrusion and conversion technologies is required
  • Ability to draw conclusions based on technical results and provide regular project status updates and technical reports to all the stakeholders is required
  • Several years of experience in a polymer processing laboratory or manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Experience in plastics processing and recycling (e.g., injection molding, sheet extrusion, thermoforming, foam extrusion, etc.) is a plus

Years of Experience: 0-3+ years

Education: Post doc or an advanced degree in Polymer Processing, Polymer Science or Polymer Engineering

Shift/Travel: M-F, days

Compensation: DOE

Assignment Type: Long-term contract, possibility of permanent
